Happy Birthday to the United States Marine Corps
The United States Marine Corps was founded on November 10, 1775. This year, veterans gathered at the American Legion post 303 in Bonita Springs to celebrate the Corps’ 241st birthday. The post hosted veterans of all branches, but especially proud Marines. TV screens displayed a slideshow of recruiting posters, photos and slogans from the Corps’ impressive history. One of the veteran Marines, John Marsh, explained to us the deep meaning of what it means to be a Marine.
After remarks from commander Adam Prentki, the birthday cake was paraded into the main area to the tune of the Marines’ Hymn played on the bagpipes. After the cutting of the cake, the crowd joined in for the National Anthem and God Bless the USA. The evening was festive with several songs and toasts to our country. The patriotic spirit could be felt by everyone who attended. As one of the veterans said, “there are those who are Marines, and there are the rest who wish they were.”
A big thank you to the Trianon Hotel at Bonita Bay for hosting us for our week of filming. Your accommodations were wonderful.
We would also like to thank Executive Producer Bob Gillette for helping to arrange so many interviews while we were in Bonita Springs.
