Bonita Springs’ Annual Veterans Day Celebration
We started at 7:00 AM on Veterans Day to capture the raising of the flags at Riverside Park, carried out by dozens of community volunteers. Over 100 American flags are erected in a semi-circle around the lawn. Each flag once lay on the casket of a veteran who has passed, either after their time in the service or in the line of duty.
After all the chairs were lined on the lawn and the crowd gathered at 11:00 AM, the ceremony began. Highlights included drill presentations from the Junior ROTC cadets from the local high school, patriotic songs from the 40s onward, a 21-gun salute and a dedication of wreaths. Mayor Peter Simmons said a few words, and Adam Prentki from American Legion post 303 served as emcee. It was touching to see how this small southwest Florida community comes together to celebrate and honor their veterans. We are certain this story will play a significant role in our film Enlisted.
A big thank you to the Trianon Hotel at Bonita Bay for hosting us for our week of filming. Your accommodations were wonderful.
We would also like to thank Executive Producer Bob Gillette for helping to arrange so many interviews while we were in Bonita Springs.
